Improving global sanitation

There are 42 million refugees and displaced people in the world today, half of them children (Source: UNHCR). According to the World Bank, 80% of the world’s 20 poorest countries have suffered a war in the past 15 years. War leads to poverty, poverty can lead to more war. It’s a vicious circle.
CORD is an international organisation with a 42 year history of working amongst people who have been forced to flee their home from conflicts. Currently it has programmeas in Burundi, Northern Uganda. Cambodia and with Sudanese refugees from Darfur in the camps of Chad.
CORD’s approach is to work alongside people who have been forced from their homes to help them identify their needs and to provide their own solutions.
The charity's approach is participative, not prescriptive. It’s about building relationships with refugees and displaced people which will enable them to gain skills which can benefit them long-term.
In 2009, in response to the plight of the thousands of innocent people who have suffered from years of conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone, CORD is planning to use its expertise to start new programmes in these countries.
CORD’s vision is that people who have been forced to flee as a result of conflict will have a real prospect of building a new life in peace; for themselves and for their communities.
